The University of Texas Permian Basin's College of Health Sciences & Human Performance welcomes applications for the position of Department Chair for Biology & Human Performance (Kinesiology)

Salary Range
$90,000.00 depending on qualifications
Essential Functions
The Department Chair for Human Performance and Biology provides academic, administrative, and faculty leadership for the Department of Human Performance and Biology within the College of Health Sciences for programs involving kinesiology, human performance, exercise science, athletic training, biology, molecular biology, organismal biology, pre professional health pathways, and graduate offerings in kinesiology and biology. This tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor reports to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences and is responsible for supporting departmental operations, curriculum development, faculty assignments, student success, research activity, assessment, compliance, and long range academic planning. The chair works closely with faculty, students, staff, program coordinators, and college leadership to maintain a collaborative academic environment, support experiential and applied learning, and ensure the department's work aligns with college and University policies, procedures, and mission. The chair's course load will not exceed Six (6) semester credit hours per semester.
1. Maintain an environment of collegiality and collaboration,
2. Oversee curriculum development and revisions for the department,
3. Assign faculty to courses that match their didactic, clinical, and field expertise,
4. Supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects and independent studies,
5. Maintain an active, ongoing scholarly agenda that seamlessly integrates students,
6. Evaluate faculty performance and identify progressive development needs annually and as needed,
7. Communicate and ensure departmental compliance with college procedures, university and system policies,
8. Coordinate with the college dean to monitor departmental expenditures, grants, and resource allocation,
9. Review and assess academic programs and general education outcomes in core courses offered by the department,
10. Communicate and facilitate departmental faculty groups to encourage data-informed review, implementation, and assessment of curriculum,
11. Evaluate the structure and effectiveness of the course design within the university's current Learning Management System (LMS),
12. Work with faculty, students, and staff to establish long-term academic goals for the department consistent with the college and university mission,
13. Manage student appeals and grievances, and ensure students meet all graduation requirements in collaboration with program coordinators as appropriate,
14. Establish and maintain a high-performing academic team composed of full-time and adjunct faculty, along with lab staff, to facilitate experiential and applied learning activities,
15. Perform other duties as assigned by the college dean.
Required Qualifications
1. Earned a doctorate or an equivalent and experience reflecting a degree in the department,
2. Eligible to apply for tenure and promotion.
3. Show at least three years of higher education teaching and academic leadership experience.
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with proficiency in English.
5. Awareness of current issues and trends in the applied health and biological science programs in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience teaching, service, and scholarship/research at a university.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of learning technologies used in applied health and science education.

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Faculty hours may differ based on class schedule and department need.

Standard Working Conditions
1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation.
