Job Summary

Communicate diet orders for each meal to department Data Center. Implement diet orders, check to be sure there is a tray for each patient with the correct diet Under the supervision of the Food Service Supervisor, coordinates meal service and nutrition support activities for assigned patient units.
Serves as the primary customer service representative for the department, ensuring accurate meal delivery, patient satisfaction, and effective communication with clinical and nursing staff.


Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage patient meal service to ensure timely and accurate delivery based on diet orders

  • Communicate with nursing staff and unit teams regarding patient diet changes, admissions, and service needs

  • Review patient meal worksheets to ensure all patients receive the correct meals

  • Prepare and deliver meal trays, beverages, and nourishments; assist patients with tray setup as needed

  • Provide menu selection guidance and accurately enter patient choices into the system

  • Support service recovery efforts to ensure a positive patient experience

  • Maintain clean, sanitized galley areas; monitor and log equipment temperatures

  • Inventory, order, and restock nourishments and supplies following par levels and FIFO procedures

  • Assist tray line operations and help expedite meal service as needed

  • Communicate patient nutrition concerns or intake issues to the clinical dietitian

  • Build strong working relationships with unit staff and support team collaboration

  • Assist with training and onboarding of new team members

Additional Skills & Experience

  • Food service experience preferred, ideally in a healthcare setting

  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service with a patient-focused approach

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse patient and staff populations

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure meal accuracy and compliance with diet orders

  • Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting

  • Basic computer proficiency for menu entry and documentation

  • Knowledge of diet modifications, food safety, and sanitation practices preferred

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and use sound judgment in daily tasks

Qualifications & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English; basic math skills required

  • On-the-job training provided (approximately 3–4 weeks)

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform moderate physical activity

  • Ability to work in patient care areas, including precaution rooms (N95 mask required)

  • Direct interaction with patients in clinical care settings

  • Fast-paced, team-oriented environment focused on patient satisfaction

  • Requires adherence to strict sanitation, safety, and infection control protocols

  • Exposure to kitchen equipment, temperature changes, and active hospital units
